When you decide to learn how to code, it’s a real tough decision to make. You usually start off with a lot of enthusiasm, but within a few days, most people give up because of the sheer amount of effort involved.
Learning to program is just like learning a brand new language. When you learn a few phrases from a foreign language, you don’t become an expert at it instantly. Similarly, learning a few lines of code doesn’t make you a coder.
Here are a few tips to help you out:
Learn the correct way
Knowing how to learn is half the battle. You need to understand how you learn things before you start learning how to code. Don’t try memorizing codes, that’s just stupid. Instead, you need to keep practising till you become fluent with the concepts. Find out the time of day when your brain picks up maximum information. Sit down to learn coding then.
Start at the right place
It is very important to know the type of programming language you are learning and where to begin. It can be a little confusing to choose a language, especially if you don’t have an area of interest. Reading the instructions might seem boring but unless you know where you’re going, there’s no point, is there?
Don’t try learning how to code yourself. There are tons of tutorials available both offline and online. Attend programming meetings, hackathons, seminars, etc. Anything but doing it alone.
Lastly, make sure you are challenging yourself at every step of the way. If you aren’t, then there is something very wrong. If you feel like everything is too easy, you’re not doing it right. Keep growing each day. It’s very easy to find a sweet spot and stick to it. Don’t let that happen to you.
