| How to change Windows startup options. Speed up Windows boot time. If you find that Windows XP takes a long time to boot, it might be worth disabling some programs that automatically start when Windows boots. Not only will it make your machine a bit quicker, but it will also free up memory. To change what programs start when Windows boots, do the following. Click Start >> Run then type msconfig and click OK ![]() The Windows XP System Configuration Utility window will appear. Click the Startup tab at the top. ![]() Untick the box next the programme you do not want to automatically start when Windows boots and click OK. ![]() Click the Restart button. ![]() |
