Terminate in application in Ubuntu.
To terminate an application in Ubuntu, open the terminal and enter the command xkill and press enter.

xkill

An X will now visible. Move the X over the application you would like to terminate and click the left mouse button on your mouse.

Make sure to only terminate the application and not the desktop otherwise you will need to restart.
